Ever since transitioning our pups from a kibble diet to a homemade/cooked, and now raw diet, I’ve been on the hunt for (organic) meat deals.
The pups’ daily meat consumption started out at about 2.5 lb per day, with Buzz eating 12 ounces twice per day, and Missy eating 8 ounces twice per day.
Just Shy Of 3 lb Of Protein Per Day!
We’ve had to adjust their protein intake a little, as Buzz was loosing some weight and Missy was gaining a little. –> Buzz is much more active than his sister.
Buzz now gets four additional ounces per meal, totaling one whopping lb per meal (i.e. 2 lb of daily protein) and Missy now eats 7 ounces twice per day (just shy of 1 lb).
Meat Deal Of The Week: 23 lb for $37!
I scored big when meat shopping for the pups this past weekend, finding a total of 23 lb of meat for just $37!
8 lb of those 23 came in the form of two whole, organic chickens which were sporting my favorite yellow, value-priced sticker 🙂 They were a little over $4 each.
Now, I’m not the greatest cook on Earth, and I had never taken an entire, raw chicken apart…but I was willing to do it for the pups if it meant saving on cost for their healthy diet.
I have to say that it was quite doable, and that it took me about 30 mins per chicken. The best part was that I was able to save most of it.
I ended up throwing out tiny bones as well as the carcass in order to prevent the pups from hurting their intestines, but cut off the chicken wings in their entirety ~ the pups had those for breakfast yesterday morning, and loved crunching away on them! I liked the added benefit of the natural tooth brush!
Do you feed your pups a raw diet or do you add fresh meat to their meals? Are you as ecstatic as I am whenever you find meat deals?! As always, we’d love to hear from you in our comment section!
