Every now and then I enjoy treating my pups with a special little something that I put in a fun shaped mold, and one of those goodies are single-ingredient, heart shaped green tripe treats.
What You Need For The Green Tripe Treats
All you need for these green tripe treats is ground green tripe, a mold, and a freezer! I thawed a 2 lb package of beef green tripe for doggie dinner and used a little of it to fill a mold with 12 heart shapes. It went in the freezer overnight and made for a refreshing, healthy snack the next day.

Where To Source Green Tripe
I recently got my hands on 40 lbs of beef green tripe for $90. That’s a heck of a deal I was able to score from a local raw dog food supplier in the NC mountains who distributes TEFCO products.
I had been hearing about being able to save a lot on raw food when purchasing from local suppliers since there’s no shipping cost, and now I finally found on. Woohoo!
I can’t tell you how excited I was when I found Raw Canine Foods, LLC while browsing the hashtag #RawFeedingCommunity on Twitter.
Before finding out about Raw Canine Foods, I purchased green tripe from both Raw Paws Pet Food, Darwin’s Natural Pet, and also from Raw Feeding Miami. I trust and recommend all of these companies and will continue to order raw dog food from them – but I’ll be getting my green tripe from Raw Canine Foods from now on since it’s a lot less expensive for me.
What I’m saying and sharing with you is that if you CAN find a local raw food distributor in your area, check out their prices and compare them with the ones from online retailers and go from there. I’m including a link to current distributors of TEFCO products – there might just be one near you.
What Is Green Tripe & What Are The Benefits?
TEFCO gives a wonderful explanation of what raw green tripe is:
Tripe is the fourth chamber of the stomach, called the abomasum, of ruminating animals. In this chamber the food is mixed with gastric juices, amino acids and other digestive enzymes.
After the solid matter of Green Tripe is digested, the gastric juices and digestive enzymes continue to aid the animal in digesting and efficiently utilizing his food over the next several meals.
Raw Green Tripe refers to the lack of processing, not the color of the product.
Green tripe has the following benefits for dogs:
*It is easily digestible
*Its gastric juices help keep doggie teeth clean
*It has the perfect calcium:phosphorus ratio
*It’s rich in amino acids & essential fatty acids
*It makes for a healthy skin & coat
