First off, I’d like you to witness my raw vs. kibble experiment. In it, I gave Missy & Buzz the choice between raw dog food and highly processed kibble. As expected, the clear winner was the raw dog food.
Dr. Dee Blanco, DVM, Talks About Health Benefits of Raw Feeding
If you’re new to the concept of feeding your dog a raw diet, I highly recommend you watch Dr. Dee Blanco’s video about raw feeding.
You will feel confident about feeding your dog (and/or cat!) a raw food diet after having watched this incredibly informative video by Dr. Dee Blanco, DVM at Marty’s Meals in Santa Fe, NM – you’ll also feel confident facing your traditional veterinarian and explaining why you choose to feed raw; the health benefits are simply undeniable:
*Reduction of Cancer Risk
*Improved Oral Health
*Improved Weight Management
*Reduction of Allergies
*Healthy Skin & Coat
Now without further ado, the following raw food companies have gained my trust over the past few years:
I shop at Raw Feeding Miami whenever I’m in need of some of the individual components for the pups’ raw meals, like muscle meat, raw meaty bones, and organs. They have a large selection of different proteins, ranging from beef to poultry all the way to venison, rabbit, quail, emu, and fish.
They also offer some pre-made, complete meals (chicken, chicken/fish, beef), supplements, broths, bulk packs, recreational bones, and single-ingredient treats (dehydrated).
They ship their packages via FedEx Ground or UPS and have a 15 lb minimum order requirement. What I like about them is their rewards program – you get a certain amount of points for every order placed that translates into $$$ which can be applied towards a future order.
I started our raw food journey with pre-made raw meals from Darwin’s because it doesn’t get any more convenient feeding a balanced, raw diet than with their pre-packaged raw meals with vegetables (BARF Diet); they come in 2 pound packages (4 servings of 8 oz. each per package) featuring an EZ-peel opening, and are shipped with UPS.
Darwin’s offers a Premium Line “Natural Selections™” (free range meat with organic vegetables), a Value Line “ZooLogics™” (conventional, human quality meat with conventionally grown vegetables), and a Prescription Line “Intelligent Design™” (specially formulated meals for dogs with certain health issues).
Darwin’s protein selection consists of Beef, Bison, Chicken, Duck, and Turkey. They also offer treats & bones (Beef Rib & Marrow Bones, Duck Necks, Green Tripe, Venison Jerky).
Darwin’s also offers a raw food line for cats (Premium Line “Natural Selections™”).
Raw Paws Pet Food ships their raw meals in 5 lb tubes and bags via FedEx. They offer raw ground meat, ground combos (meat & bone mix), and ground complete meals (meat, bone, & organ mix).
Raw Paws Pet Food does not add any vegetables or fruit to their meals (Alpha Prey Model). All of their meats are USA raised, hormone- & antibiotic-free, and don’t contain any fillers or additives.
Raw Paws Pet Food protein selection consists of Beef, Buffalo, Chicken, Duck, Fish (Mackerel, Salmon, Sardines, & Smelt), Goat, Lamb, Pork, Quail, Rabbit, Sheep, Turkey, and Venison.
Raw Paws Pet Food also offers meaty bones (necks, backs, feet, tails, frames, wings, leg quarters, & ribs), chews (antlers, bully sticks, ears), & treats (baked, dehydrated, freeze-dried, smoked).
Raw Paws also offers raw cat food, cat treats, and cat chews.
Balanced Blends is a Boulder, CO based company launched in 2016 by three enthusiastic founders interested in feeding their dogs & cats a species-appropriate, fresh diet. Together with veterinarians and a PhD nutritionist, they created complete & balanced, raw diets for both dogs & cats. Balanced Blends delivers their pre-mixed raw food within the continental USA (lower 48 states).
Balanced Blends follows the B.A.R.F. model of raw feeding, translating into Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (consisting of raw meat, fruits, vegetables, and bone) – as opposed to the Prey Model (raw meat & bone without fruits and vegetables).
Their pre-portioned meals consist of 90% Meat, Organ, & Bone, as well as 10% Produce & Vitamin and Mineral Mix (all ground). The meals are currently available in two different protein choices: beef and chicken, but the company plans on expanding their protein selection.

Please be aware of the fact that the raw food brands mentioned above only made it on this list of recommendations because I have ordered/actively order from them, have been very satisfied with their products, and Missy & Buzz have done exceedingly well with everything I've ordered from them.
