I was recently contacted by Marcus from Principal Hotels in the UK asking if I’d consider sharing an infographic they created regarding traveling tips for adventures with our four-legged best friends. I really liked it and agreed to share it – along with a little information about these pawsome dog-friendly hotels.
If you ever find yourself exploring the UK and your pooch is lucky enough to join you AND you feel like experiencing a truly grand getaway, do treat yourselves to a stay at the Principal Hotel Company at one of their over 40 city-center locations across the UK.
Judging by Ambassador pup George’s happy face, it must be quite the experience! You can follow his adventures on Instagram here.
What To Expect When Staying At The Principal’s With Your Dog
I haven’t had the opportunity to experience a stay at any of the Principal properties in the UK with or without my pups, so I’ll share what their website says about Fido tagging along:
At Principal we understand that pets are part of the family, that’s why all of our hotels are dog friendly. We currently have several dog friendly hotels in great city centre locations throughout the UK such as Edinburgh, York, Manchester and London, with more to follow.
Pawshake w/ Andreas Maszczyk, General Manager of the (amazing) Principal Edinburgh, aptly on George St, to celebrate its renovation and the start of welcoming well-behaved pups like me 🐶 personally labelled dog beds, ceramic Principal pet bowls and a doggy hamper containing doggy bags are just some of the luxuries that lie in wait for us doggy guests 🤗👌🏼🐾 more photos to follow… 📸 #allinadayswork #principaledinburgh #pawofapproval #dogfriendly #dogfriendlyhotel #visitscotland #ambassadog #edinburgh #scotland

Your pet will receive the same warm welcome on arrival that all of our guests do, all we ask is that you let us know ahead of your arrival if you plan on bringing your dog(s), that your dog weighs no more than about 35kg – around the size of a fully grown male Labrador and that you look after your dog throughout the duration of your stay.
Your four-legged friend will be met with their own dog bed to sleep in for the night, as well as bowls for water and food. We’ll advise you on arrival the best place to exercise your dog while you’re staying with us, and if you’re looking for longer dog walks in the local area then please just ask at reception and we’d be happy to point them out.
Principal’s Advice For Traveling With Your Dog
Sounds like a pretty fab place to relax and unwind with your dog, right? The Principal also put together a helpful infographic featuring things to consider when traveling with your dog, so without further ado, here it is:
So whether you decide to bring your pup along on your next vacation on this side of the Atlantic or the other, make sure to follow the guidelines from above and it should turn out to be a great experience for all.
Remember to take a few short drives if your dog is unfamiliar with being in the car to familiarize your dog with the new sensation, without overwhelming him.
You could even start with a super gentle approach to getting her used to being in the car by simply hanging out in it together when it’s parked. Bring Fido’s favorite treats or toys and have a little car party, and don’t forget to bring something tasty for you as well 😉
I hung out in the car with Missy & Buzz like this when they were still tiny puppies to associate the car with tons of fun. I’d bring my coffee and treats for the pups, and we had a blast!
