Win 5 Natural Solutions For Sensitive Dog Skin

Anicura is a fairly young UK-based company whose focus lies on natural skin care products for dogs & cats.

All of Anicura’s skin care products were developed to help animals prone to skin allergies, dry and flaky skin, itchy and chapped skin, as well as those who are suffering from sores, scabs and other skin illnesses.

Products Inspired By Rescued K9 CEO Bella & Sister Company Salcura

Anicura's K9 CEO Bella

Anicura’s humans Claudia & Martin adopted American Staffordshire Terrier Bella in 2013. Although Bella herself wasn’t plagued by skin problems, many Staffies & rescue pups in general are prone to skin conditions and allergies due to their weak immune systems.

Adopting Bella made Claudia & Martin realize the need for a high quality natural skincare range that works with the delicate dog (& cat) skin instead of against it.

Anicura’s sister company Salcura Natural Skin Therapy (for humans) has over a decade of experience with natural ingredients and also inspired the launch of a natural skin care product range for pets!

It goes without saying that neither the human skin care products nor the ones for our pets are tested on animals!

Natural Alternative To Chemical Skin Care Products & Pest Preventatives

After Missy’s thyroid cancer diagnosis & treatment throughout late 2014/early 2015, I have slowly but surely implemented a healthier lifestyle for both pups, consisting of a minimally processed raw diet, less vaccinations, and natural alternatives to chemical pest preventatives & skin care products.

While looking for the latter, I was excited to find out about Anicura Natural Pet Solutions last summer & reviewed some of their wonderful products here:

Anicura Natural Pet Solutions – Healthy Skin For Your Dog (& Cat!)

Anicura Natural Pet Solutions - Healthy Skin For Your Dog (& Cat!)

We’ve been using Anicura’s Dog Shampoo & Insect Repellent for 8 months now & enthusiastically recommend both (I’ve also used the insect repellent on myself, by the way)!

The pups are both lucky enough not to have any skin problems which is the only reason why we haven’t been using Anicura’s Gel Ointment & Spray, both of which are designed to calm & soothe, as well as heal, itchy and inflamed skin.

Made With All Natural Ingredients Instead Of Harsh Chemicals

Anicura’s skincare products never contain any steroids (itch-relieving hormones), paragons (chemical preservatives), lanolin (relatively common allergen), phthalates (chemical plasticizers), sodium laurel sulphate (SLS ~ chemical detergent), antibiotics, cortisones (used to treat inflammation, allergies, itching with many side effects) or paraffin (mineral oil derived from petroleum) ~ essentially nothing hard to pronounce!

What Anicura DOES use in their products sounds more like a stroll through a garden – Calendula Extract, Lavender Essential Oil, Safflower Oil, Seabuckthorn Oil, as well as Roman Chamomile Oil.

Since Anicura doesn’t use any harsh chemicals in their products, it was ok to give the pups baths in our backyard with Anicura’s mild shampoo throughout the warmer summer months without having to worry about the environment.

Safe If Ingested

Since all of Anicura’s products are natural, they are safe if accidentally ingested. Now that’s peace of mind!

It Works!

Bob, the yellow lab, gets hot spots regularly. His owners are not sure why he gets them, but now they know that Anicura’s Dog Spray helps them go away quickly!

Blue is a Staffie with very itchy skin, which made him scratch it so badly he opened up a scab. Blue’s owner has been using Anicura’s Dog Gel Ointment to help the skin heal and stop the frantic scratching.

Oberon is a Greyhound rescue who suffered from very serious skin conditions. Anicura provided his owner, who did not have many funds, with all of their skincare products and she’s been using them successfully since!

To enter Anicura’s giveaway for the 5 natural solutions for sensitive dog skin, simply visit the form below where you can enter every day for the next two weeks. Missy & Buzz wish you good luck!

The non-greasy Dog Spray ($21.99) has been designed to calm & soothe your dog’s skin. It can be used on a daily basis and can initially be applied as many as 3-4 times per day to heal the skin.

The omega-rich Dog Gel Ointment ($14.99) forms a soft layer over the skin and has been designed for the not-so-easy to reach areas like face wrinkles or other specific areas like the paws or other patches of skin not covered by your dog’s coat. The gel ointment can also initially be applied 3-4 times per day.

Anicura’s omega-rich, mild, deep-cleansing Dog Shampoo ($19.99) only contains natural fragrances such as chamomile & lavender. It can be used on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or as needed basis (remember not to wash your dog too often, however, as that will rid the coat of its natural oils!).

The gentle Dog Conditioner ($19.99) is an ideal complement of Anicura’s Dog Shampoo. Just as the shampoo, it can be used on a weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or as needed basis.

The water-based Insect Repellent ($19.99) is a spray-on anti-pest protection and will keep fleas, ticks, and other creepy crawlies away. It can be used as often as deemed necessary (& works for both dogs AND cats!).

Have you transitioned your pup(s) from chemical pest preventatives & grooming products to natural alternatives? As always, we’d love to hear from you in our comment section!

Those sound like great products for dogs with skin issues. We our lucky ours do not have them. We use Frontline for ticks. Hunting dogs working in fields are exposed to lots of them so April-October that is what we use. Let me tell you those stupid ticks can really hide in a dense brown double coat. This year, for the very first time, Storm picked up one in Nov while hunting in the forest around the cabin. Usually we do not have any up there, but it was a very wet Fall so I figure that is why. Hate them. Fleas on the other hand don’t seem to like Chessies. If we did not hunt them, we could skip any treatment.

Yikes, ticks really are some of the most disgusting pests out there. 2015 was just terrible – they were all over the place, although thankfully not on my pups, but definitely on several of my client dogs. I make it a point not to walk my pups through any brush or tall grass, but I get that that’s just not feasible for working dogs!! I believe that topical anti-pest products might be the only solution to keep working dogs from being attacked by ticks throughout the warmer months, at least if they’re out hunting or herding in tall grass. Do you use any natural alternatives when your Chessies are not working, like throughout winter time?

      1. 2 brown dawgs blog Avatar

No we don’t use anything. Some summers if it is really hot we see less ticks and we kind of play it by ear and may take a month off. The farm where we train is tick heaven. Tall grass and brush…ugg. If we go out of state to a hunt test, then treatment is a must. Like I said, if they did not go into the field, we would not use anything.

This sounds so good. I am so aware of what we put into our bodies but sometimes people forget what we put ON our bodies. The more natural the better. I love using tea tree oil and coconut oil. Thank you for talking about things like this!!

    1. K9sOverCoffee Avatar

I couldn’t agree more, Julie. I love coconut oil as well. I’ve been using more skin-friendly, gentle products ever since Missy got done with her cancer treatment.
Thank you for reading things like this 😉

My dog is itchy during the winter time. I have been adding supplements to his dog food, and this would help too.

    1. K9sOverCoffee Avatar

The right kind of nutrition AND natural skin care products definitely go hand in hand!!

He is much less itchy since be switched to grain free food.

        1. K9sOverCoffee Avatar

I’m very glad to hear that! Grains & dogs just don’t go together well. Have you ever heard of a dog raiding a corn field?!

These all sound like great products. I’m especially interested in the insect repellent since I really hate using chemical type repellents on Haley. The before and after pics are really impressive for hot spot treatment too!

    1. K9sOverCoffee Avatar

      They really are impressive!
The natural insect repellent was what really peaked my interest in Anicura – we’re at almost 9 months of chemical-free pest solutions, and I’m loving it!!
