For The More Adventurous Raw Feeder: Beef Oxlips For Dogs

Disclaimer: This blog post was originally published in 2017 and has been updated in 2023.

I recently discovered beef oxlips for dogs, and I’m happy to report that the pups love them!

They’re definitely an odd looking cut of meat with spikes on the front and a clear back.

They’re also super slimy, so I needed a little extra motivation to hold them down while I cut them into smaller pieces.

In case you were wondering โ€“ that motivation were Missy & Buzz.

They were drooling in the kitchen in anticipation of the new delicacyโ€ฆ#TheThingsYouDo,Right

How To Cut Raw Beef Oxlips For Dogs

I found that it’s easiest to cut the oxlips:

  • When they’re still partially frozen and
  • Using a bread knife instead of a regular kitchen knife.

Where To Buy Raw Beef Oxlips For Dogs

Raw Feeding Miami

I bought the raw beef oxlips from Raw Feeding Miami. They were part of the prepackaged 35 lbย Beef Lovers Pack.

The cost per pack is $94.99 and it sells out quickly! Besides the oxlips, it also featured:ย

  • Beef Trachea
  • Ground Beef
  • Beef Heart
  • Beef Cheek
  • Green Tripe Chunks
  • Beef Trachea Stuffed With Green Tripe
  • Beef Lung
  • Ground Green Tripe
  • Ground Beef Lung
  • Monstermash (organ mix)
  • It also came with some duck frames and duck wings, although those are obviously not beef related

You can also buy theย beef oxlips separately for $4.50/lb.

Update: Unfortunately, Raw Feeding Miami no longer carries the beef oxlips, and they also stopped selling their Beef Lovers Pack. Major bummer!

B&R Food Services

However, I found a wholesale retailer in Los Angeles who sells raw beef oxlips in 60 lb cases.

Their name is B&R Food Services, and you can check them out here.

Instacart

You can also buy them on Instacart – who knew:

Raw Beef Oxlips For Dogs: Bottom Line

Raw beef oxlips are an odd looking cut of meat that’s great to add for variety in raw meals.

Unlike with the raw pork uterus I recently wrote about, both Missy AND Buzz liked the beef oxlips, and my pup Wally likes it too!

Buzz didnโ€™t even remotely think about spitting them back out, so theyโ€™ll definitely make it onto our raw meal shopping list again.

Have you fed your pups (or yourself?!) beef oxlips? As always, Iโ€™d love to hear from you in the comment section!

OK, I am not one bit adventurous and I think I know now the one thing that holds me back from feeding my dogs raw. I need to get less squeamish. LOL. Good for you for being willing to do this for your dogs, Barbara, I admire that. I’m not sure I dare read the pork uterus post! ๐Ÿ™‚

Lol Jan, and that’s totally ok!! I didn’t use to be one bit adventurous either as far as putting raw meals together, trust me. That’s when pre-made raw meals come in super handy ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for understanding. ๐Ÿ™‚ Hey, another blogger friend is trying Ziwi Peak, which I guess is an air dried raw food? Are you familiar with it at all? I just wondered what you thought of something like that.

Sure thing! Ah, yes, I bet you’re talking about Cathy from Groovy Goldendoodles! She did send me an email about feeding that food – I still have to get back to her. Things have been a little crazy here lately. Yes, I’m familiar with Ziwi Peak. It’s a top notch dry food for sure. I’ve fed it occasionally. The only major downside of it is the price point.

I have fed oxlips before. But I still think the weirdest thing I have ever fed was pork snouts.

That’s so cool, Rebekah! So far, I’ve always scrolled past the pork snouts when raw meat shopping online…I’m sure they’ll make it on my list at some point ๐Ÿ˜‰
