About a week ago, I had my first introduction to dog cancer supplements.
That was after my initial phone consultation with Dr. Charles E. Loops, DVM/Homeopathic Veterinarian.
The next day, Missy and I went to see him at his office of veterinary homeopathy in Pittsboro, NC to pick up her remedies and dog cancer supplements.
For anyone who doesn’t know Missy’s story, here’s the summarized version.
Missy was first diagnosed with cancer back in 2014. She was only 3 years and 3 months old back then. Her tumor was surgically removed and she got several rounds of preventative chemotherapy. Despite all this, her oncologist predicted that the cancer would come back within the next 6 months.
Since I didn’t have anything to lose, I switched her from kibble to raw dog food in 2015 as I had heard so many wonderful things about this diet and its immune system boosting benefits. And sure enough, it helped Missy be in remission from cancer for 3 years.
Not 6 months, but 3 years.
However, her cancer has come back and this time around, it’s too late to surgically remove it. It has spread into her lungs and can’t be cured using either Western or wholistic treatments.
So the reason why I’m resorting to these dog cancer supplements is for end of life support. I want to increase her quality of life as much as possible.
I’d rather not pump her body full of chemical drugs. We did 2 weeks of oral chemotherapy treatment which I just put an end to.

Fish Oil
Dr. Loops’ preferred brand of fish oil is Thorne Super EPAVET made from anchovies. 90 gelcaps retail for $33.00 on the brand’s website.
Dr. Loops recommends cold water fish oil, salmon oil, and some other fish oils that are molecularly distilled.
That’s because they have a higher concentration of EPA and DHA. They also don’t contain any heavy metals.
Transfer Factor or Transfer Factor Plus or Canine Complete – 4Life
These supplements all boost the immune system.
I looked up the Canine Complete formula and found that it contains a patented concentrate of transfer factors and other natural components from:
- Cow colostrum and egg yolk
- Cordyceps sinensis hybrid
- Maitake mushroom
- Shiitake mushroom
- IP-6 (inositol hexaphosphate)
- Lactic acid bacteria
- Yeast (Saacharomyces cerevisiae)
- Sunflower oil (source of Omega 6,9 fatty acids)
- Soybean oil (source of Omega 3,6,9 fatty acids)
- Flaxseed oil
FYI: Transfer factors are small messenger molecules that transfer immune recognition to naive immune cells.
Curcumin
Curcumin (= turmeric) is a tumor reduction supplement.
Dr. Loops recommends the brand Curcuvet for Missy (SA150).
It also helps reduce inflammation of the GI tract and joints and protects the liver and kidneys from damage. 90 capsules retail for $29.95 on Amazon.

Life Gold – Canine Cancer Support
Life Gold is an herbal complex formulated for cancer treatment.
2 oz retail for $40.95 on Amazon.
It helps manage symptoms of dog cancer by:
- Supporting the immune system and vital systems of detoxification
- Helping reduce oxidative stress
- Supporting antioxidant functions
- Promoting long-term health
- Helping to re-establish the essence of a healthy, vibrant life
Perfusia Arginine
Since Missy’s heart is slightly enlarged, the Perfusia Arginine also made it on Dr. Loops’ list of suggested dog cancer supplements for her.
120 capsules retail for $40.00.
They improve blood flow and maintenance of normal blood pressure.
CBD Oil (Hemp Oil)
Dr. Loops recommends two CBD oil brands – Bluebird Botanicals which retails for $49.95 (2 oz) and Canna Companion which retails for $85.00 (1 oz).
I went ahead and ordered a bottle of the Bluebird Botanicals oil.
Hemp oil contains the perfect ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids, reduces inflammation, and strengthens the immune system.
Optimal Cancer Diet For Dogs – Darwin’s Intelligent Design Cancer Support Diet
I went ahead and placed an order with Darwin’s as their cancer support formula comes highly recommended by Dr. Loops.
It’s prescription only, so his office staff contacted Darwin’s and took care of the prescription part.
When I called a few hours later, it was in their system and I had no trouble placing an order.
It’s funny how I’m back to feeding Darwin’s as they were the very first commercial raw dog food brand I purchased back in 2015. I fed it for the first few months when I made the switch from kibble to homemade to raw meals.
The only reason why I stopped ordering from them was their price point as it did get expensive feeding two medium to large sized dogs. So for now, only Missy eats Darwin’s. Her brother Buzz continues eating mainly homemade raw dog food.

I’m thankful for Dr. Loops’s dog cancer supplements because they’re providing gentle end of life support for my puppy Missy.
She’s eating Darwin’s cancer support diet along with my homemade turmeric paste supplement. Although I know that I can’t save my little girl this time around, it’s good to see that she hasn’t lost her appetite. She’s devouring her food as she always has – enthusiastically!
