If you’re not familiar with Balanced Blends Pet Food yet, you’re in for a treat!
Let me explain.
We are foodies here at K9sOverCoffee and appreciate a well-presented dish that’s aesthetically pleasing.
This goes for both human AND dog food, so we knew we had to enter Balanced Blends’ Making Raw Feeding Fun Contest when they asked us if we’d consider it!
Who is Balanced Blends Pet Food?
Balanced Blends Pet Food is a Boulder, Colorado based raw dog food company we worked with earlier this year and also supported on Kickstarter.
In case you missed our post in April, here it is again:
Making The Switch To A Balanced Raw Diet Was Never Easier
Disclaimer: Balanced Blends provided us with 10 lb of free raw food for our participation in the “Make Raw Feeding Fun” Contest. This blog post contains affiliate links. I may earn compensation when you click on the links at no additional cost to you.
High-End Restaurant Inspired Raw Dog Food Dish
I found the inspiration for our contest picture while browsing food art on Pinterest.
I knew I wanted to take a minimalistic approach and fell in love with a food presentation shaped like puzzle pieces.

The Ingredients We Used For Our Raw Dog Food Dish
For this particular raw dog food recipe, we used 6 ingredients:
- Balanced Blends Beef Dinner for the puzzle pieces
- Balanced Blends Chicken Dinner for the paw prints
- Canned Pumpkin Purée for the stars
- 2 Blueberries
- Homemade Green Lipped Mussel Powder
- Organic Ground Ginger
I sprinkled my presentation with a little green lipped mussel powder and ground ginger and pawlà! Missy was licking her chops over it throughout the entirety of our photoshoot.
We used this puzzle piece shaped silicone mold to make the puzzle pieces from the raw dog food, this one for the paw shapes, and a similar one to this for the star shapes!

It’d Be Pawsome If You Voted For Our Dish!
We would be thankful if you voted for our entry over on the Balanced Blends’ sweepstakes gallery! The 3 bloggers with the most votes will win prizes.
Bottom Line
We had a lot of fun with this food challenge, from brainstorming ideas to finding silicone molds for our food shapes, putting everything together and doing the photoshoot – with an ever so patient K9 model, by the way!
Missy truly earned her raw dog food dinner that particular night and of course ended up eating the puzzle pieces in no time!

18 months into raw feeding and we are definitely no longer puzzled by it!
Have you served your pup (or kitty!) a fun meal? Would be fun to see pictures of it on Instagram – just tag it with the hashtag #MakingRawFeedingFun
As always, we’d love to hear from you in our comment section!

These are adorable and I’m sure delicious, too! We just heard about Balanced Blends recently. Sounds like a great company and we will check them out.
Thank you! Yes, they are – I’m confident your pups will like their food 😉
Such a cute presentation! Plating is always the thing that amazes me most on cooking shows–even if I try to make things look pretty on the plate, they just end up looking sloppy!
Same here! It really is an art in itself. I’ve been working on my plating skills and am starting to get a hang of things. It’s a matter of practice, I suppose 😉
That is so creative, and looks so good! I went over and voted for you. I don’t get too fancy around here usually, but sometimes for the dogs’ birthdays I’ll do something special. I did puppy cheesecakes in a pumpkin mold this year. It was pretty simple and fun too!
Thanks so much Jan, also for giving us your vote 🙂 I saw your pumpkin mold on your blog and really liked it!!
You’re welcome and thanks! You can see how the cheesecakes came out in my post tomorrow. 🙂
Sweet! I’ll be sure to hop on over tomorrow and take a look :-))
