Why is it good to add duck to your dog’s raw dog food?
But why raw duck for dogs in the first place? Well, ideally it should be one of several protein sources you feed your pup.
That’s because variety is important in raw feeding. After all, different cuts of meat from different animals contain different nutrients.
That said, duck is a red meat that’s a bit fattier than other animals – unless you hunt wild ducks. Those are leaner than the domesticated kind.
Either way, it’s one of my favorite protein sources for raw meaty bones. I feed duck hearts, gizzards, heads, necks, wings, feet, and frames, as well as ground duck.
It’s also a cooling protein which is great if you have a dog who suffers from skin inflammation, like my pup Wally.
Raw Duck for Dogs: Where to Buy It
The following raw dog food retailers carry duck in varying forms. Some sell ground raw duck for dogs that’s ready to feed as is, and others sell parts of raw duck.
The latter need to be fed with other cuts of meat in order to be considered complete.
Good to know: Adult dogs eat 2-4% of their target body weight in raw meat per day.
Of those 2-4%, 70-80% are muscle meat including fish, 10% are raw meaty bones, and 10% are secreting organs (5% liver, 5% other secreting organ).
If you choose to add plant matter to your dog’s raw meals, decrease the muscle meat to 70% and feed 10% plant matter (veggies, fruit, nuts, and seeds).

How I include duck in Wally’s raw dog food
Wally eats a variety of different protein sources, and duck is one of them. I mostly make my own raw meals, meaning I purchase individual cuts of meat and arrange them with other cuts.
Here are a few example of how I include duck in Wally’s raw dog food:

Raw duck for dogs: Bottom Line
Duck for raw dog food is fairly inexpensive and not terribly hard to source here in the US.
You can find it either pre-made from brands like Raw Paws Pet Food, Raw K9, Vital Essentials, and Darwin’s.
If you prefer to make your own raw meals, you can also find individual cuts of duck at retailers like Raw Paws Pet Food, My Pet Carnivore, and Raw Feeding Miami.
If you’re a raw dog food brand who carries raw duck for dogs and I didn’t mention you, please feel free to leave me a note in the comment section below this post. I’ll be glad to add you to my list of sources!
