Today I’m taking a little break from my usual raw feeding related blog posts and am joining the Pet Bloggers Journey 2021!
That’s an annual virtual get together of pet bloggers where we talk about our successes, challenges and goals.
It’s hosted by seasoned and full-time blogger Colby from PuppyInTraining. He writes about all things puppies, and specifically training service dog puppies.
Fun fact: I once met Colby along with fellow blogger Lindsay from ThatMutt in person in beautiful San Diego back in 2017.
Fingers crossed we can really travel again this year!

Pet Bloggers Journey 2021!
Now without further ado, let’s jump into this year’s questions!

1. When did you begin your blog and what do you currently write about on your blog?
I began my blog K9sOverCoffee in August 2014 and write mostly about raw dog food.
That includes pre-made raw dog food, DIY raw dog food recipes & general how to, reviews of different brands, as well as a few giveaways for my readers.
2. Name one thing about your blog, or one blogging goal that you accomplished during 2020, that made you most proud.
Under my new hosting provider SiteGround, my traffic has gone up quite a bit and is currently at over 17,000 monthly page views. That’s a new record for my little blog, ha!
I also made $1,400 of passive income in 2020 despite the fact that my traffic numbers were so low – that’s also a new record for me!
3. Which of your 2020 posts was most popular with your audience? Why do you think it does so well?
My most popular post is How To Keep Raw Dog Food Affordable.
It offers actionable advice and tips on how to keep the cost of raw feeding down, which is one of the biggest worries new raw feeders have.
Truth be told, raw feeding can get expensive with pre-made raw dog food when it’s bought for multiple large dogs.
That’s why my number one tip is to learn how to make your own, followed by investing in a freezer for discounted bulk raw meat purchases.

4. What was the biggest blogging challenge you faced in 2020, and how did you tackle it?
Ha, that was without a doubt the fact that my traffic tanked to close to nothing under my previous hosting provider, Bluehost.
Ever since I made the switch to SiteGround, my numbers have been going up like never before.
I also invested a lot of time in updating my older content, and while I’m still not done, it’s been starting to literally pay off.
The combination of switching hosting providers and updating old content seems to do the trick!
5. Tell us one thing you learned in 2020 that can help us all become better bloggers.
Don’t compare yourself to other bloggers, especially those that have been blogging much longer than yourself. That comparison is likely to be frustrating.
I think it’s a lot more helpful to compare your blogging self to your own previous years of blogging.
For example, has your blog gained traction? Are your traffic numbers increasing? Did you launch new products? Is your community engaged and growing?
As long as you’re making progress on your blogging journey, you’re doing something right.
Also, stick to it! Keep showing up, even when it’s hard and doesn’t seem to be paying off anytime soon. Eventually, it WILL, and that’s when you’ll be grateful you kept going.
6. What are your top three blogging goals for 2021?
Most importantly, I want to reach a minimum of 50,000 monthly page views at the end of 2021 so I qualify for Mediavine’s ad network.
Next up, I also want to have all of my older blog content updated, and make it a habit to frequently revisit and update my content.
As far as those updates are concerned, I check for dead links, outdated price information, and provide more details if there is new information to be shared.
Last but not least, I’m looking to make at least double the passive income I did in 2020!
7. In the perfect world, where do you see yourself and your blog one year from now?
I’ll have reached my 3 three blogging goals and launched a course in early 2022!
I’ll also be part of a blogging Mastermind group.
8. If you had $1,000 to spend on your blog, how would you spend it?
I’d invest it in an SEO or copywriting class. I’ve learned quite a bit just from trial and error over the years and reading books on both subjects.
However, an actual class would probably provide more in-depth information!
9. What is one skill youโd like to learn or improve in 2021?
It would be great to become more proficient in video producing and editing. While I have quite a few videos on my K9sOverCoffeee YouTube Channel, they’re all pretty amateurish.
I suppose I’ll start with getting a tripod for my iPhone, lol!
10. If you could ask the pet blogging community for help with one challenge youโre having with your blog, what would it be?
It would be great to find a Mastermind group within the pet blogging community! Is anyone up for that or can recommend a Mastermind group that already exists?
I personally find the lack of belonging to a group of like minded bloggers to be most challenging.
Wouldn’t it be great to have someone to hold yourself accountable for implementing your ideas and reaching your goals?
Someone to run new ideas by and find inspiration in?
