For The More Adventurous Raw Feeder – Raw Pork Uterus

Although I’ve been feeding raw dog food since 2015, I just recently became a little more adventurous when I introduced raw pork uterus!

Here’s how I found out about it.

I was browsing Raw Feeding Miami’s (RFM) protein selection, and decided to check out their pork section.

By the way, part of Raw Feeding Miami’s product description for the pork uterus reads “For the more adventurous raw feeder”.

Update 2021: Unfortunately, Raw Feeding Miami no longer carries pork uterus. However, they have alternatives like pork cushion meat, pork heart, and pork jowls.

Tip: You can find pork uterus at ethnic markets like Asian grocery stores here in the US.

Pork raised in the US is safe to feed our dogs nowadays as biosecurity measures on pig farms have improved a lot.

Raw Pork Uterus – Neutral Protein To Be Fed As Muscle Meat in Raw Dog Food

Pork is rich in thiamin, riboflavin, zinc, magnesium, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, niacin, phosphorus, and iron.

Pork uterus is to be fed as muscle meat, which makes up 80% of a meal.

I prefer introducing new protein sources slowly and mixing things up for variety’s sake either way, so I mixed the uterus with a thread herring and beef heart. I also added some pumpkin purée.

When you put your own raw meals together, you’ll want to achieve balance by feeding about 80% muscle meat, 10% raw meaty bones, and 10% secreting organs.

5% of the latter are liver, and 5% are other secreting organs. For example, kidneys or pancreas, to name just two.

The meal pictured below does not feature secreting organs or raw meaty bones. I fed those at a different time of the day.

Now, as you can see in the video below, Missy loved the pork uterus. Buzz however didn’t like it at all. This was definitely a first!!

He did try it several times but kept spitting it out. This was the case when I offered it to him thawed AND partially frozen.

I figured he might not like the flabby, somewhat slimy, consistency of the thawed uterus. But he also more or less politely declined it when it was partially frozen.

So far, both pups have liked every single raw item I’ve bought for them, meaning Buzz not liking the pork uterus was definitely a first.

Raw Pork Uterus For Dogs: Bottom Line

Pork uterus is fed as a muscle meat in raw feeding. It’s a bit hard to find, but a great cut of meat to add to raw dog food in the sense that it brings variety to the bowl.

Our pork uterus introduction wasn’t 100% successful since Buzz decided to be a spoiled little puppy brat and spat it out.

But Missy LOVED it!

This is fantastic! Thanks to this post, I’m looking for a source for pork uterus. I have all things pork, but I don’t remember uterus being on the list. And that reminds me, I also want cow placenta.

The best thing about raw feeding is belonging to a community where we can learn from each other. Thanks for this post. I shared EVERYWHERE!!!
