How To Make Single-Ingredient Green Tripe Dog Treats

Today I’m sharing a super simple “recipe” for your own green tripe dog treats.

As a raw feeder, I’m a huge fan of single-ingredient dog treats, and since green tripe is a superfood that dogs can’t resist, I figured I’d combine the two!

What Is Green Tripe & What Are The Benefits For Dogs?

Green tripe is the stomach lining of ruminant animals. For example, cattle, sheep, goats, and deer. It’s chock-full of gastric juices, amino acids and other digestive enzymes.

Raw Green Tripe refers to the lack of processing, not the color of the product.

Green tripe has the following benefits for dogs – it’s:

  • Easily digestible
  • A natural way of keeping dog teeth clean (thanks to its gastric juices)
  • Perfectly balanced as far as the calcium:phosphorus ratio is concerned
  • Rich in amino acids and essential fatty acids
  • Great for healthy skin and coat
  • Fed as muscle meat in raw feeding

What You Need For The Green Tripe Dog Treats

All you need for these green tripe dog treats is ground green tripe, a silicone mold, and a freezer!

You’ll have to thaw some green tripe, fill a baking or ice cube mold with it, and then freeze overnight. That’s all!

The most commonly available type of green tripe is beef green tripe, but you can also use green tripe from bison, lamb, goat, or deer.

I’ve made these particular treats with beef and bison green tripe in a heart shaped silicone mold.

Where To Buy Green Tripe For Dogs In The US

While some local grocery stores carry bleached tripe, this is NOT the kind you’ll want to feed your pups.

That’s because bleached tripe has been washed and treated with chemicals. As a consequence, it has little to no nutritional value.

However, there are several great online raw dog food retailers that sell green tripe here in the US!

Green Tripe From Raw Feeding Miami & Raw Paws Pet Food

My personal favorites are Raw Feeding Miami and Raw Paws Pet Food.

Green Tripe From My Pet Carnivore

You can also order green tripe from online raw dog food retailer My Pet Carnivore. They sell beef, goat, and lamb green tripe.

So far, I’ve ordered beaver, lake trout and duck hearts from them, but I haven’t ordered green tripe from this particular retailer yet.

Green Tripe From TEFCO

Update 2020: I also placed quite a few green tripe orders with TEFCO in 2016 and 2017, but I no longer do.

They’re a raw dog food company who sells their products through distributors.

After reading some conflicting information about the sourcing of their meat, I no longer felt comfortable ordering from them.

Also, the distributors I picked up from here in NC no longer sell raw dog food from TEFCO.

Just FYI, a 40 lb order of been green tripe from TEFCO cost me $90.

For comparison’s sake, beef green tripe from Raw Paws Pet Food is $8.99/lb.

If you use my affiliate discount code K9Savings at checkout, you can save 15%.

That brings the cost down to $7.64/lb.

40 lb of beef green tripe from Raw Feeding Miami is $136 + shipping. The shipping rate depends on your location. My shipping rate here in NC is usually around $35.

Raw Feeding Miami’s bison green tripe is more expensive than the beef green tripe. 40 lb of that would be $240. You can take 10% off that price with my referral discount link.

Green Tripe Dog Treats: Bottom Line

Green tripe dog treats are super simple to make AND they’re a great single-ingredient treat for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

That’s because green tripe is a superfood that’s chock-full of digestive enzymes which make it easily digestible.

When you’re shopping for your green tripe treats, make sure you get GREEN tripe from a raw dog food retailer as opposed to the bleached kind you can find at grocery stores.

Alternatively, you can also purchase freeze-dried beef green tripe treats, for example the ones from Raw Paws Pet Food. The benefits of these freeze-dried treats over the homemade frozen ones is that they make great training treats.

I wish we had local pre-made food! But, I find with Rocky’s allergies and price-wise, it’s better to make your own.

Right?! Although I have to say that the heart shape is more for my benefit than the pups’, lol. They couldn’t care less what shape their tripe comes in ๐Ÿ˜‰
