What We Expect From A High Quality Dog Car Seat Cover
Ever since my pups Missy & Buzz have been around, I’ve made it a point to keep the interior of my cars clean with doggie car seat covers/hammocks.
I’ve had one in a convertible Mustang, a Jeep Grand Cherokee and my current Chevy Sonic.

The main purpose of each car hammock was definitely to keep the seats from getting covered in dog hair, slobber and muddy, wet paw prints.
Since the pups went to many parks and wooded areas that were bound to leave dirt on the hammocks, they absolutely needed to be washable, which all of them were.
So for us, the most important feature of a car seat cover/hammock is its functionality.
While our two previous ones checked that box big time, they did lack in one department – style.
To be quite honest, both were boring, plain and simple.
One was gray, the other one was black, and neither had any depth to it as far as texture was concerned. I had always envisioned a somewhat thicker fabric that was easy on the eye.

We Broke In Our New Dog Car Hammock With A Little Road Trip From Spring Lake, NC To Greensboro, NC
The pups and I left around 6:45 am, got some gas and hit the road.
They’re not super early risers, which explains their somewhat gloomy facial expressions in the first picture at the gas station…
By the time we arrived in Greensboro, they were wide awake and happy to check out the new sniffs we were surrounded by.
Once back home from our little excursion, I was glad to see that the hammock had done exactly what I had expected it to do. It stayed in place and gave the pups a comfy, somewhat cushioned surface to snooze on.
Machine Washable in Cold Water
Fast forward 3 weeks and several more car trips on our new dog car hammock, and it was time to put that baby into the wash.
I had only shaken it out a few times to remove sand and other loose dirt.
I washed it by itself in cold water on the delicate cycle and air-dried it over night.
Well, I’m happy to report that it passed the washing machine test with flying colors – it looked just the way it did when I first got it in the mail.

Any Cons?
The only minor con I could find in comparison to our previous dog car hammocks is the lack of pockets.

Those modern patterns look really nice. We like the seat cover we have from another company but it’s the boring black/gray color like you mentioned. I would highly recommend a seat cover for any dog owner who doesn’t already have one. At least for road trips and muddy hikes.
Yes, there’s just something fun about those colors/patterns! I completely agree with you – a car seat cover is a fairly inexpensive accessory that will go a long way for any dog person with a somewhat active lifestyle.
