I had been looking for versatile doggie jackets for a while, and finally decided to go with Ruffwear’s Cloud Chaser jackets.
Missy weighs 50 lb and is now sporting the Forest Green version in size M. Buzz weighs 70 lb and “chose” Obsidian Black in size L. The jackets are also available in Granite Grey & in Red Rock.
Update 2021: Ruffwear has changed the color availability of the Cloud Chaser quite a bit over the years. Officially, it’s only available in Obsidian Black these days. However, you can still find a few options in green, red and grey on Amazon.
Reviewing Ruffwear’s All-Weather Sleeved Cloud Chaser Jacket

All-Weather Sleeved Jacket
I really like how versatile this jacket is:
- Breathable membrane protects against the elements
- Water-and windproof material
- Fleece-lined interior keeps dogs warm
- Only weighs 8 ounces
The sleeves allow full range of motion for Fido’s front legs. That makes this outfit the perfect doggie attire for long walks, hikes, and outside playtime in the colder months.
The Cloud Chaser Is Very Easy To Put On
The zipper on the left side makes it extremely easy to put the jacket on and also to take it off. Additionally, the four-way stretch makes for a comfortable fit.

Reflective Trim For Visibility In Low Light
Ruffwear’s design also incorporates a safety feature in form of a reflective trim.
You will come to appreciate this a lot when you’re walking your pup in the dark morning and evening hours during wintertime.

Can Easily Be Combined With Dog Backpacks & Harnesses
The jacket is thin enough to be combined with dog backpacks and still allows full range of motion after the backpack has been strapped on.

I use car harnesses for safety reasons whenever the pups come along for a car ride. That said, I’m very pleased to report that the car harnesses still fit nicely on top of the Ruffwear Cloud Chaser jackets!

Great Alternative To Elizabethan Collar/Comfy Cone
Buzz just had to have a small mass on his left shoulder removed. I was initially going to have him wear his Comfy Cone to prevent him from licking or scratching at the incision.
However, it wouldn’t have prevented his sister Missy from potentially getting to it…enter Ruffwear’s Cloud Chaser™ jacket!
I figured I’d see how he does with wearing the jacket inside the house until the removal of his staples.
Well, he doesn’t seem to mind it at all and it has been covering the incision perfectly. Yet another practical use for the Ruffwear Cloud Chaser jacket!

Every Cloud Chaser Jacket Is Customizable
The customizable tag on the interior of the jacket is definitely a unique feature! It comes with two spots for your pup’s name and your phone number.

Care Label
The care label can be found on the back of the customizable tag.
The Ruffwear Cloud Chaser jacket can be washed in the washing machine, but needs to be washed in cold water on the gentle cycle.
However, it CAN NOT be dried in the dryer, but has to air dry instead. It also can’t be dry cleaned.
Reviewing Ruffwear’s All-Weather Sleeved Cloud Chaser Jacket: 4 Enthusiastic High Paws!
The pups give their new Ruffwear Cloud Chaser jackets 4 enthusiastic high paws!
Obviously the Cloud Chaser is not a necessity for dogs with undercoats and thick fur in general, but my Boxer mixes have very thin fur and do get cold easily during winter.
The Cloud Chasers keep them comfortable on walks & playtime in cold weather, while allowing full range of motion!
The only suggestion for improvement I can think of is to make the jacket available in a broader color palette. How about light blue and deep pink or purple?!

Hi Y’all!
BOL!!! What neat jackets.
Y’all come on by,
Hawk aka BrownDog
Hi Hawk,
YES!!! We all love the pups’ new jackets :-))
Thanks for the review! Mari and Kiefer
Missy & Buzz were glad to model for the review 🙂 I’m glad you liked it!
We love the Ruffwear backpack for Toby. They make quality products.
That’s awesome ~ Ruffwear backpacks will be next on our puppy shopping list! They really make excellent dog products 🙂
The backpack thing was something I wondered about with a jacket. Thanks for posting pictures!
Glad the pics helped & that you liked them 🙂
Thanks for sharing on our bloghop!
Thank you for hosting it!
That’s a great looking jacket and looks perfect for your pups. A zipper on my long-haired dog would be a mess! We love our new Hurtta jacket — no zippers, no velcro, nothing at all to catch Rocco’s fur. And, it’s long enough to cover his hips and keep him warm and agile!
That’s a good point, Diane! Long hair & zippers don’t mix 😉
Nice jacket. Love the light up feature.
I agree 🙂 The reflective feature is really cool!
Nice review – sure does seem pretty versatile. I really appreciate the reflective material – I always worry about my guys at night.
Thanks! I worry about my guys at night too, so they always wear reflective clothing and/or an LED light on their collars.
Wow, that reflection is great for those dark mornings. If we needed coats we would definitely check these out!
Yes, it really gets you noticed while out on a dark walk!
We LOVE Ruffwear and have had Cloud Chasers since Sophie was a puppy five years ago. A great product. Wish we had more use for it, but living now in South Florida makes fleece a thing of the past (unless we have a cold spell). Thanks for this great review.
Thank you very much, Jody! Haha, well lucky you for living in South Florida, we would love to live in Florida as well at some point…I can see why you wouldn’t need the Cloud Chaser down there 😉
🙂 I have to tell you, I miss not wearing fall and winter clothes, which are sitting in my closet being very lonely. I look forward to visiting NYC to wear my wardrobe, among other things! LOL
I have no doubt!!
Thanks for the review! I have been looking at this jacket to replace Alfie’s not-very-waterproof raincoat, and I think you’ve convinced me!
Glad to hear that!! You won’t be disappointed – they still look like they’re brand new, and we’ve had them for over 1 year…and worn the heck out of them on rainy and cold days!
Oh good. I look forward to getting one later – it will be nice to see a less sad, sopping wet Alfie!
BOL to that 😉
